AIU Hosts Meeting with Top Lithuanian University
Fri, Apr 10, 2026, 12:08 PM

On April 10, 2026, Astana International University (AIU) hosted a significant international meeting. Our university welcomed a delegation from Lithuania representing Vytautas Magnus University (VMU). The visit from our colleagues in Kaunas was a logical continuation of the cooperation officially established by the agreement signed on October 29, 2025. The purpose of today’s negotiations was not only to strengthen ties but also to develop specific educational trajectories for students and researchers from both institutions.

Vytautas Magnus University is a landmark name in the European educational landscape. Founded in 1922, it is Lithuania's second most important academic center and ranks among the top 5% of universities worldwide according to the prestigious QS World University Rankings. VMU is renowned for its unique "Artes Liberales" model—a liberal arts system that allows students to independently shape their study programs, combining interdisciplinarity with profound language training. As part of the Transform4Europe alliance, the Lithuanian university implements the most modern teaching standards, making it a strategically vital partner for AIU.

The meeting at AIU was exceptionally productive. One of the primary topics of discussion was the implementation of double degree programs. Specifically, the AIU Higher School of Economics is actively working on launching a joint undergraduate program in "International Logistics Management" (AIU) and "Logistics and Commerce" (VMU). This will provide our students with a unique opportunity to obtain degrees from two countries, recognized globally in the labor market.

In addition to double degrees, the parties outlined clear plans for academic mobility: the first student exchanges are scheduled to start in the 2026–2027 academic year. Short-term courses and joint PhD doctoral programs were also a major focus. Our colleagues from Kaunas expressed their readiness to share expertise and engage in joint scientific activities, granting our doctoral students access to cutting-edge research facilities in Lithuania. Today’s visit confirmed that the partnership between AIU and VMU is an alliance of two modern classical universities dedicated to creating high-quality education without borders.

MY BEST LESSON!
Thu, Apr 9, 2026, 8:45 AM

From January 19 to April 10, 2026, for the first time, a competition for the

best short-term lesson plan titled “MY BEST LESSON” was held among 3rd and

4th year students of the “Biology” educational program. The event was organized

within the framework of cooperation between the university and employers under

the “University–School” partnership.

The competition was aimed at developing the professional competencies of

future biology teachers, based on their practical activities during their teaching

practice in general education schools of Astana.

The competition consisted of two stages. The first (online/remote) stage was

held in schools under the supervision of mentor teachers, where the best lesson

plans conducted by student trainees were selected. The winners were

recommended for the second (face-to-face) stage, which took place on April 3,

2026, at the university.

The event contributed to the professional development of students by

allowing them to demonstrate their skills in designing short-term lesson plans,

applying active teaching methods, implementing differentiated instruction based on

individual student needs, and effectively using critical thinking strategies and

criteria-based assessment tools.

Winners of the first stage received certificates for participation in the

professional competition, while the winners of the second stage were awarded 1st,

2nd, and 3rd degree diplomas on behalf of the Rector of AIU.

This event plays an important role in training future specialists, as it

contributes not only to the formation of subject-specific and professional

competencies, but also to the development of a repository of modern

methodological resources in biology, as well as fostering creativity and a research-

oriented mindset among biology students.

We express our sincere gratitude to our colleagues from Astana schools,

Sagatbekova Serikkaysha Kabylgazinovna and Arkhymatayeva Arai

Zhaksylykovna, for their active participation in our joint work, and we look

forward to continued cooperation in the future!

Astana International University has marked a new milestone in fostering international dialogue. The university hosted an official visit from the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Finland to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Janne Heiskanen.

The visit began with an official meeting between the Ambassador and the President of AIU, Serik Aztaevich Irsaliyev. During the session, Mr. Heiskanen was introduced to the university's operations, academic milestones, and its unique educational ecosystem.

The discussion focused on establishing close cooperation with Finnish universities, particularly in modern pedagogy, instructional technologies, and updated educational content. The President of AIU proposed the establishment of a Center for Pedagogical Excellence in Astana, based at AIU, with the participation of Finnish experts to enhance the qualifications of university staff and, subsequently, school leaders and teachers across the capital. Additionally, the parties discussed involving Finnish businesses and European investments in the tourism cluster project currently being developed by AIU. Both sides agreed to integrate these initiatives into the agenda for upcoming high-level visits to Finland.

In an atmosphere of mutual trust, President Irsaliyev presented the Ambassador with a symbolic gift — a kamshy (traditional whip), representing strength, unity, and acceleration. In return, Mr. Heiskanen gifted the university a commemorative book titled "100 Social Innovations from Finland: How Finland Became Finland."

The Ambassador then held an open lecture for students titled "Finland — How Foreign Policy is Shaped in the World's Happiest Country?" He shared valuable insights into the bilateral relations and how domestic values of well-being and education serve as the foundation for Finland's effective global diplomacy. The Q&A session was particularly engaging; AIU students showered the diplomat with questions ranging from educational grants to the secrets of the world-famous "Finnish happiness," which he answered with great enthusiasm.
