On April 27, 2026, at the School of Arts and Humanities, on the eve of the
81st anniversary of the Great Victory, a meeting was held with Abubakir
Abdireevich Smailov — Deputy Chairman of the Board of the public association
“Atamnyn Amanaty,” a veteran of the Armed Forces of the Republic of
Kazakhstan, a military journalist, and a laureate of the international literary award
“Alash.”
The public association “Atamnyn Amanaty” is the only organization in
Kazakhstan that systematically conducts search operations to identify the burial
sites of Kazakhstani soldiers who went missing during the Second World War, and
also carries out activities aimed at preserving the memory of their heroic path for
future generations.
During the event “Faithfulness to the Legacy: The Great Victory in the
Memory of Generations,” organized at Astana International University, A. Smailov
presented valuable information that more than 4,500 Kazakhstani soldiers
previously listed as missing in action have now been found, and the remains of 23
soldiers have been returned to their homeland and laid to rest.
He also emphasized that work in this direction is ongoing and that the
younger generation should contribute to this important cause. During the meeting,
the faculty of the School of Arts and Humanities, as well as students of the
“History” educational program, asked A. Smailov questions and exchanged views.
