On March 31, 2026, Astana International University
(AIU) served as a venue for an important international dialogue. The university
was honored by a visit from Her Excellency Andrea Bacher, the Ambassador
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria to Kazakhstan. This visit is part
of the university's strategy to develop global partnerships and provide
students with the opportunity to learn from leading world diplomats.
The main event of the day was an open lecture on
"Austria’s Foreign and Security Policy." The Ambassador spoke in
detail about Austria's neutral status, its role in the European Union, and its
approaches to ensuring regional security. Ms. Andrea Bacher also shared
valuable insights into the bilateral cooperation between Austria and
Kazakhstan, highlighting shared approaches to international issues and
successful examples of interaction across various sectors.
Following the presentation, the meeting moved into an
open Q&A format. AIU students were given the unique opportunity to ask
questions directly to the representative of the Austrian diplomatic corps. The
discussion was lively, with future specialists interested in the nuances of
diplomatic service as well as the prospects for cooperation between Kazakhstan
and Austria in educational and cultural spheres.
As part of the visit program, an official meeting was
held between the Ambassador and the AIU leadership. The parties discussed
current issues of international interaction and ways to strengthen friendly
ties. As a token of respect and appreciation on behalf of the university, a
commemorative gift was presented to Ms. Andrea Bacher.
