On April 22, 2026, a master class on the topic “Problem-Based Learning (PBL)” was
organized for second-year students of the “Biology” educational program. The event
was held within the framework of the “University–School” program.
Research teachers from the Astana school-lyceum “Binom School named after A.
Bokeikhan,” Arai Zhaksylykovna Arkhymataeva and Laura Muratbekovna
Yermekbayeva, introduced students to the main ideas of problem-based learning
(PBL).
The core idea of this pedagogical approach is that learning should be built around a
problem. At the same time, information on each case is provided in stages, enabling
students to independently explore the problem, search for information, and present a
final solution. Once a stage is completed, the next block of materials is revealed.
In addition, the teachers shared their advanced experience and noted that team-based
case planning and linking cases to real-life situations are highly effective within this
approach.
The master class was conducted at a high methodological level, as evidenced by the
excellent feedback from students and their willingness to continue such meetings,
which contribute to the development of professional skills of future biology teachers.
